Benin City – The Edo State chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria,(AFAN), has disclosed plans to train farmers in the state on modern agricultural techniques.

Edo AFAN chairman, Chief Emmanuel Odigie, made the disclosure recently in Benin city, during an enlarged state executive meeting of the association.

Chief Odigie who noted that, the association have made arrangement with agricultural stakeholders as well as experts to teach farmers new methods to grow their agribusiness, added, “certificate will be awarded to participants after completion of the training”.

The Edo AFAN chairman lamented the bottleneck in accessing agricultural loans through the Anchor Borrowers Programme, with a call on members with access to land to make same available to their colleague that want to expand.

Chief Odigie however frowned at some members of Edo AFAN that went to form other farmers association, noting that, AFAN’s meeting with the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo recently was fruitful.

The Edo AFAN chairman who is the only member representing farmers in the Anchors Borrowers Programme Committee, set up by Edo state government, apologized to members for not holding meeting in the month of July, as stipulated in the association’s constitution.

Present at the enlarged state executive committee meeting was Edo State Comptroller, Prisons, Mr. Osazuwa Osayande, and a Greenhouse farmer, Mr. Jacob Obinyan Eromosele.
