ASABA- Ahead of the January 6, council polls in Delta state, the police command in the state has warned mischief-makers and political thugs to steer clear of registered polling units.
The command said only those on official and emergency duties with valid means of identification as well as the electorates with permanent voters’ cards and going to their polling units to cast their votes will be allowed movement.

The outgoing Commissioner of Police in the state, Zanna M. Ibrahim, in Asaba yesterday threatened to deal ruthlessly with any person or group of persons that foment trouble during the exercise.
He explained that restriction order was placed for a security measure tailored towards checkmating hoodlums from hijacking the exercise.

He said, “we advised politicians and their supporters to adhere strictly to the electoral provisions and avoid any conduct that is capable of causing break down of law and order before, during and after the elections.”
He maintained that any person that ferment troubles will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the provisions of the law and regretted the inconveniences the restriction order will cause commuters.
He urged travellers passing through the state to take alternative routes or make do with other contingency plans.
