BENIN CITY- Chairman, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Edo State Chapter, Comrade Sunday Erhahon has urged union members to comply with governments guideline on seating arrangement based on the present suspension of revenues for the month of April.

Speaking with joirnalists based on palliatives put in place to cushion the effects of the partial restriction of movements in the state, Comrade Erhahon noted that though it was no longer business as usual, nonetheless, the overall effects would not be felt by drivers as government was already looking into their plight.

He therefore called on drivers to maintain governments guidelines on the new seating arrangement in the interest of all towards minimizing transmission of the virus from one passenger to another. He noted that compliance with
guidelines would help drive down the spread of COVID 19 incidents in the state.

He maintained that the leadership of the union was with government to ensure compliance of drivers with the new seating arrangement. The union he said, has already embarked on meetings with unit heads to make the message trickle down to all members plying inter and intra city routes.

He reiterated that RTEAN was working on behalf of all union members helping to bridge the gap between government and members, hence the present need for full compliance.

Erhahon sued for safety consciousness by drivers, emphasising the need to maintain social distancing side by side with the “two- two- one” (5 passengers) seating arrangement for commercial buses and “two- one” (3 passengers) for taxis.
