Lagos – The last born of the former Military Ad administrator of Ondo State, Brigadier General Opaleye has been shot dead by unknown men at a drinking joint in Surulere, Lagos on Thursday night.

The deceased identified as one Muyiwa Babafumilayo Okpaleye was shot dead at a popular drinking joint on Adekunle Kuye street, Surulere.

Authoritative source revealed that the gunmen, about four in number, shot the deceased dead at a close range before zooming off in a tinted car without plate number.

It was gathered that the deceased was at the joint with his friend identified as Kunle and others to relax with drink when the dare devil assalants struck.

The deceased intimate friend, Kunle who tried to rush him to the hospital was arrested by the Police team who heard the sound of the gun shots and race to the area, was arrested and taken to Soloki Police Station for interrogation.

It was learnt that all efforts made at convincing the police that the deceased was his friend fell on deft ears.

It was gathered that Kunle’s efforts to convince the Police that he was an intimate friend of the deceased and was trying to rescue him did not augur well to the security men as they interrogated him and made to write a statement while Muyiwa’s body was taken to a morgue.

Source said, “Unfortunately, Kunle who made spirited efforts to save his friend was clamped into detention while the case was transfered to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba for further investigation”.

It was also gathered that Opa, as Muyiwa was popularly called, is the last born in the noble family of one time military administration of Ondo state, Brigadier General Opaleye (rtd).

He was working with a sporting outfit called City Sports and he lives at Ajose Adeogun Street in Victoria Island.

He reportedly frequents Surulere where he has a lot of friends and admirers. His assassination sparked off a lot of sympathy and emotions from his Facebook friends who lamented his demise in words like, “unbelievable, So sad, a sad loss, etc”.

Police sources said that already, crack homicide detectives at Panti, Yaba have swung into action after receiving matching orders from both Lagos Police boss, Hakeem Odumosu and DCP SIID, Mrs Longe.

Police source hinted that the detectives were given 48 hours to unravel the mystery surrounding the darstardly act and arrest the pepertrators.

Meanwhile, a team of Police hierarchy have been sent to meet the deceased family and inform them of the sad incident.
