BENIN CITY – A right group known as the People’s Alternative Movement (PAM) South-South Zone has vowed to join Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, civil society and professional groups in Nigeria to resist the federal government proposed hike in petroleum products, electricity tariff and imposition of tax on soft drinks as it termed anti people.

While addressing journalists on Monday in Benin City, the South South Coordinator of PAM, Dr. Osagie Obayuwana said “it’s a shame that Nigeria has been declared as the poverty capital of the world with the highest level of inflation and cost of living while the government is doing nothing about it”.

Dr. Obayuwana regretted that while Nigerians were buying imported petroleum products at cutthroat prices, “Buhari as the president and minister of petroleum has allowed his few local and international friends to profit maximally from what our country is blessed with”.

According to him ” we the Nigerian people protested against this in 2012. Buhari asked for our votes in 2014, and made all kinds of promises which he has refused to keep. We cannot and must not allow this to continue at the expense of our lives and those of our children, our today and our tomorrow”.

The group however vowed that enough is enough to all the hardship that has been meted on the poor masses by the greedy political class who think only of themselves.

“We must fight for our right and reject this proposed increase in the hardship we already face” they charged.
