Benin City – The Hon. Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Barr. Andrew Emwanta has said that the appointment of Barr. Solomon Imohiense as permanent secretary (PS) was based on proven capacity and not merely on the number of years spent in service.

Barr. Emwanta stated this after the swearing in ceremony of Barr. Solomon Imohiense as the PS on Tuesday in Benin City.

According to him, “under the new system, it is a way of rewarding hardwork, diligence and not merely spending number of years in service. The new PS has proven to be capable after series of interviews”.

Speaking further, Barr. Emwanta said “since I came on board as commissioner, Barr. Imohiensen has played active roles in the various committees set up in the ministry. So when the office of PS became vacant his name came up because he was diligent.”

The new PS is speculated to be assigned to Edo Ministry of Communication and Orientation, “having attained this height in the profession, I don’t think there is more suitable place for him than home but I also believe that a good journalist is versatile and can serve very well anywhere” the Commissioner noted.

In his remark, Barr. Imohiense commended Governor Obaseki for transformational leadership that places importance on merit above sentiment.
“Mr. Obaseki has transformed the working system in Edo State. This appointment came after we were been subjected to rigorous tests and interviews. With this new system I believe that dedication to service pays, this is transformational leadership at best” he said.

While making her speach, the acting General Manager of BCNL, Mrs. Aina Balogun described Barr. Imohiense as a “man of human face, conscience and dedication whose leadership at BNCL will remain indelible”.

Untill his appointment as the PS, Barr. Imohiense served as the General Manager of the Bendel Newspaper Company Limited (BNCL), publishers of the Nigerian Observer titles.
