The peaceful protest by some youths over the killing of a bus driver by Anti Riot Police man, turned bloody when the Police men sent to forestall the breakdown of law and order clashed with the protesters, resulting in the death two Police Men.
It was gathered that a Police man shot a driver by name Osasume Agho over his refusal to bribe him with N20.00. The incident occurred yesterday along Sakponba road, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state capital, where some Anti Riot Police squad mounted an illegal check point.
It was revealed that the police men who mounted a road block, stopped the driver and demanded for a bribe. The said driver refused to give them any money because according to some residence the check point was illegal, the said driver verbally abused them, and engaged one of them in physical fight and in the process, one of the Police men shot him dead.
The youths in the area and some other commercial drivers took to the streets to protest the killing of the driver, burnt some government vehicles in the process. The Police men who were sent to calm the protesters clashed with youths while trying to disperse them and in the process two Police men lost their life.
What started as a peaceful protest culminated into a fight between the Police and the youths.
It was gathered that some of the protesters have been arrested and they have fingered one Osas Amadi Francis Eboigbe and Sunday Uche and some others currently on the run as their people that spare headed the burning of the vehicles.
The Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the story and told our reporter that the Police have declared those on the run wanted especially Osas Amadi, Francis Eboigbe and Sunday Uche . They are appealing to the public to furnish them with any meaningful information that can led to their arrest.
