It was a sad day in the political history of Edo State as two members of the opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost their lives after a protest in Benin City over the released result of Esan North East Local government area election held on the 22rd of October 2013.
The diseased identified as Osarobo Ogiemudia and Albert Omoruyi were attacked and murdered in cold blood accompanying one Uwadiae Monday Blessing to the house of a PDP party leader in the State.
It was gathered that the purpose of the visit after a successful protest was to hand over the alleged authentic and written result of the election at Esan North East local government area to the PDP leader as evidence to challenge the resul.
Speaking to our crime correspondent, a reliable source who pleaded ananonimity alleged that all the Ad-hoc Staff hired by Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) including Uwadia Monday Blessing were taken to a hotel (name withheld) in the guise of training as they were handled over copies of written results instructing them to swap with the authentic result at the end of the election warning them not to reveal the details of the meeting or else pay with their lives.
Another source said both candidates Sam Oboh (APC) and John Yakubu (PDP) are both lovely son’s of Esan North East but the PDP candidate was well known because he is a grassroots mobiliser and always with the people unlike the APC candidate who is always in Benin City.
He disclosed that several meetings was held in the area by elders, youths and leaders and all agreed to endorse the PDP candidate who is closer to them compared to the APC candidate. He noted that on the day of the election majority of us voted for the agreed candidate PDP John Yakubu.
“As counting was on and John Yakubu of the PDP was leading with a margine and jubilation was already on in Esan North East local government area suddenly EDSIEC released another result in Benin declaring Sam Oboh winner of the election”.
He added that the announcement spark wide protest both in Benin and all across Esan North East local government area as youths set burn fire on major road.
PDP as a Party has cried out calling on notable Nigerians to come to the aid of the party as the young men (Osarobo and Albert) are Killed at their prime stressing that these young men joined other party loyalist calling for justice.
The party said these young men were with Uwadiae Monday Blessing who led the protest and was undercover PDP member who work with EDSIEC.
He said Osarobo and Albert met their untimely death as they accompanied Uwadiae Monday Blessing to the house of a PDP leader to present evidence of rigging the election to him as PDP thugs attacked them few meters to the house of the leader as Osarobo and Albert were murdered in cold blood.
“The attacked and death scared PDP members who ran towards different directions for safty. The corpse has already been deposited in an disclosed mortuary as investigation into the matter continues”.
