BORNO- Suspected Boko Haram insurgents, have reportedly killed over 15 Nigeria army personnel attached to the Giwa Army Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State Capital following the deadly attack on the military facility by the insurgents.
The incident which occurred on March 14, 2014, left no fewer than 35 army personnel seriously wounded as the whereabouts of one Pt. Osawaru Courage, Pt. Gabriel John and 3 others has continued to cause apprehension and fear amongst family members and sympathisers.
Addressing newsmen in Maiduguri recently, a family source, who simply identified himself as Oscar, as he was not authorized to speak to the press on behalf of the army said that trouble started when their son Osawaru courage and others were drafted to operation lafia Dole in Borno State to combat insurgency in the north east, adding that the military were taken by surprised attack by the Dare Boko Haram insurgents on March 14, 2014.
The insurgents were said to have overran personnel of the Giwa barracks with more Superior weapon, as the yet-to-be-seen Osawaru Courage apparently faced with death narrowly escaped death by jumping through the back fence of the barracks, even when he sustained injuries.
It was scooped further that the injured army personnel and others were later evacuated to the military hospital in the state for medical attention.
Osawaru Courage was said to have been last seen on May 10, 2014 and his whereabouts remain unknown as at the time of this report.
An insider in the army barracks who pleaded anonimity because he was not authorized to speak on the issue, confirmed the report, adding that the army authorities have commenced preliminary investigation into the whereabouts of the fleeing Osawaru Courage, Gabriel John and 3 others
He called on members of the public who may know the whereabouts of any of these army’s personnel to approach any security formation in the country, assuring that such information would be treated with strict confidentiality
Effort to get reaction from the army spokesman proved abortive as calls and text messages sent to his cell phone were not answered not replied.
