BONNY (RIVERS) – Dr Dakuku Peterside, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers says his administration will upgrade the Federal Oil and Gas Polytechnic Bonny to a University.
Peterside disclosed this when he called on the Amanayabo of Grand Bonny, King Edward Asimini William, in Bonny, Bonny Local Government Area of the state.
He said if elected, his administration would work with the Federal Government to change the status of the Polytechnic to a University.
He said that his administration would work with the joint industrial committee of the state, to set up the Bonny Kingdom Development Foundation to fast-track the development of the Island.
“The Federal Government initiated the Oil and Gas Polytechnic, Your Majesty, we will explore that process and work closely with the Federal Government and push that the polytechnic be converted to Oil and Gas University,’’ he said.
Peterside said the state had all the ingredients to support the agitation to upgrade the Polytechnic to a University.
The candidate stated that Bonny Kingdom would have a special place in his administration, especially, the expansion of the economic opportunities of the people.
According to him, the focus of this our administration from May 29, will be on growing the economy, expanding economic opportunities for all our people, and in our focus area, Bonny will occupy a special place.
He said that his administration would work with the Bonny Kingdom Development Foundation to develop the area.
He also said that if elected, his administration would work with the Federal government to start the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas train 7, which he said, would provide 10,000 jobs for the youths in the state.
Responding, the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny King Dappa Pepple, who spoke through the chairman of the Bonny Traditional Council, Col. Manilla Pepple (rtd), appealed for support for shoreline protection, job creation and empowerment of the people.
