EKPOMA-Edo State governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has lauded the authorities of the state owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area for what he described as sterling leadership qualities of persons at the helms of affair in the institution.

Comrade Oshiomhole who made the commendation at the weekend during the climax of the 19th Convocation Ceremony AAU, praised the chancellor, HRH Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar CFR, Etsu-Nupe, pro-chancellor, HRH Prof. Gregory Akenzua and vice-chancellor, Prof. Cordelia Agbebaku for their leadership and administrative acumen.

He particular hailed their choices of the honorary degree awardees, which included the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Ebebiri, Chief (Dr) Lee Ikpea and president of Believers’ Love World, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, noting that they are men of impeccable characters, worthy of the honours.

The governor, showered encomium on he vice-chancellor for the prevailing peace on the university campus, as well as the judicious deployment of funds accruing to the university, which said has translated to infrastructural development in the institution.

He pledged to sustain the state government’s support to the university, but challenged its authorities to explore more avenues of revenue generation, as government alone could not fund the university.

The chancellor of the university, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, Etsu Nupe congratulated the higher degrees recipients, imploring to be good ambassadors of the institution.

He seized the opportunity, appeal to chairmen of local government council of the state to renew their financial assistance and commitment to the university, acknowledging their previous assistance which precipitated the development of staff housing scheme.

The director of Quality Assurance, National Universities Commission, Prof. Chinedu Mafiana lauded AAU for embracing the quality assurance policy of NUC, just as he charged them to make judicious use of federal government TETFUND grants to improve infrastructures in the university.

He use the occasion to warn university against running courses that are not approved by the NUC, noting that products of such programmes would neither be recognized nor mobilize for NYSC.

Highpoints of the occasion were the award of higher degrees, launching of endowment fund and award of honourary degrees.
