SOKOTO – Alhaji Abdulsamat Dasuki, member-elect of the House of Representatives (APC-Sokoto) has promised to initiate a bill that would enable the Federal Government to attract unemployed youths into mechanised agriculture.
Dasuki told newsmen in Sokoto that such legislation would ensure the availability of modern farming inputs at government controlled rates across the country.
He said that the youth would be actively engaged in the system to enable them to contribute towards the nation’s socio-economic and political growth.
Dasuki, who will be representing Tambuwal/Kebbe federal constituency, said that federal and state governments would be encouraged to set up colleges of agriculture to train the youth and women in mechanised farming.
He said that the introduction of mechanised agriculture would guarantee food security and discourage food importation.
“ We are blessed with the vast land needed to produce assorted food crops for our consumption and exportation.”
He said that mechanised agriculture would ensure the optimal development of the sector, saying it would further sustain the nation’s giant strides.
Dasuki stressed that the teeming unemployed youths would be interested in farming under the system, expressing confidence in the ability of the youth to reposition the sectors.
Dasuki, who is a serving member of the state House of Assembly representing Tambuwal East Constituency, advised the youth to promote peace, progress and political stability in the country.
“As leaders of tomorrow, emphasis should be geared towards contributing their quota towards the socio-economic and political growth of our country.”
