ABUJA – The Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, says he will meet with the principals of Federal Government colleges over their non-membership of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS)
Shekarau spoke on Tuesday evening in Abuja, at a dinner organised in honour of the National Executive of ANCOPSS.
ANCOPSS is holding its annual congress in Abuja.
The minister expressed displeasure over the continued absence of unity school principals at ANCOPSS congresses, which he noted should not be so.
“The curricula are the same; the age bracket is the same; I feel guilty we do not bring Federal Government principals to ANCOPSS.
“I will fix a meeting with them within the next two weeks; they have a lot to gain from being part of ANCOPSS-share ideas, problem and scholarly papers.
“The problem confronting both state and federal government’s schools are the same; unity schools do not participate in our quiz, debate and essay competitions; so they are losing,’’ he said.
He urged the ANCOPSS executive to reach out to principals of unity schools with a view to bringing them into the ANCOPSS fold.
Responding on behalf of ANCOPSS, Mrs Omotunde Lawson, the President, Lagos State Chapter, thanked Shekarau for identifying with the association which he led for many years.
She said that the minister had demonstrated an unyielding passion for education and prayed God to strengthen him in his further endeavours.
