Gwagwalada (FCT) – President Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kv transmission substation.
Jonathan, who was represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo, said that since the completion of the project, there had been system stability.
“Since the completion of these works, the FCT and indeed the national grid have experienced remarkable system stability especially during system disturbances that have in the past resulted in total system collapses,” he said.
He said that his administration would continue to make meaningful contributions that would enhance the development of the country.
Jonathan said that all decisions taken by the National Council on Privitisation on power were based on professional advice.
He cautioned the people against vandalism of the project which was expected to serve generations yet unborn.
The president said government was planning the construction of 4,000 megawatts hydro power under the second phase of the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs).
Jonathan said the second phase of NIPPs would step up wheeling capacity to 20,000mw.
He said before the facility, FCT and Nassarawa state were supplied by a 330kV double circuit line and a 132kV double circuit line from Shiroro Hydro Power Station terminating at Katampe and Apo substation.
The substation is equipped with 2X150MVA 330/132kV Transformers and 2X60MVA 132/33kV transformers.
In a remark, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said NDPHC was a three-tier government company with many of its projects in the NIPPS being commissioned not only in the Niger Delta.
He said that the country had the capacity to generate 6,000mw if there was gas and could evacuate up to 5,500 megawatts.
