NSUKKA – The 92nd inaugural lecture of the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, will hold on Thursday, May 14.
The lecture, titled: “Global Political Economy and Development of Underdevelopment: Different People, Same Market and Glorification of Poverty”, would be delivered by Prof Aloysius Okolie, a former Chairman of the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Okolie, a professor of Political Science at the university, said this in an interview with newsmen in Nsukka.
According to him, the lecture will explore the basics of global political economy, trace the roots of development and underdevelopment as well as challenges facing peripheral social formations.
“The lecture, at Princess Alexandra Hall of UNN, will explore the basic features of global political economy.
“It will also x-ray the reality of how development across the globe lies in appreciating the politics and demands of societal transformations,’’ he said.
According to him, the lecture will enable guests to take a glossary look at poverty and how the ruling class, in most developing economies, have glorified it as an instrument for domination and appropriation.
“ The larger part of the population in developing countries are locked up in absorbing an unending search of stomach infrastructure, thereby, paying little attention to how their national, state and local leaderships are plundering public wealth,’’ Okolie said.
