A member of Igbinigie confraternity cult group, Friday Ogieva, has been reportedly killed in an ensued fracas between members of his cult group and some youths arising from their (youths) failure to be initiated into the cult group, just as the members of the ogboni, deliberately set the house of one of their members ablaze over the escape of his son, a 23-yr-old, Idehen John.
However, the police and the leadership of the ogboni cult group have declared him, Idehen John, wanted over his complicity in the initiation related quagmire
It would be recalled that some cult members of the ogboni had recently invaded and callously set the house of the father of Idehen John at No 15,.3rd Isibor Street, Off Saint Saviour Road Benin City, in lieu of his escape.
Speaking with Journalists, an eye witness who gave detailed accounts of what transpired but failed to disclose his identity said that the matter started in UmoghunNokhua village in Orhiobmwon Local Government Area of the state, a native village of the said Idehen John, on the 12th of December 2015, when some persons claimed to be friends of his father who also their member unknown to him and their visit was to negotiate as to how his son would be initiated as earlier pledged which is the pre-condition for assuming new leadership hierarchy
The source said that while they were meeting Idehen John’s father who is a farmer in the village, they (cultists) asked him to influence his son to join, but in replying, his father said that his son was a devoted Christian and may not be, interested in joining, saying they immediately reminded his father of the covenant he entered into with them regarding the initiation of his son, as the fundamental basis for achieving promotion among members but they angrily threatened to deal with his son for violating their agreement.
Idehen John who did not know from onset that his father was a staunch member of the ogboni cult group became suspicious of the incessant visit to his father by the cultists and as such the cultists callously invaded their house with cutlasses and other sophisticated weapons but luck however ran against the cultists as the said Idehen John overpowered them and used their cutlass which the cultists brought to cut off the ear of one of their members and cleverly escaped the scene through the window
The source further disclosed that on the 2nd of January 2016, another strange looking persons also invaded the house of the father of Idehen John, this time was to possibly forced him to be initiated, but he (Idehen john). and his two friends, Osas and Christopher, we’re together and immediately the cultists saw them they started fighting them and in the process, one of the friends to Idehen John, smartly used broken bottle to stab one of the cultists and died instantly and they (Idehen John and friends) escaped.
While his two friends escaped to different direction, Idehen John, escaped to his father house at No 15, 3rd Isibor Street, Off Saint Saviour Road, Benin City but the cultists who got the wind of his escaped to Benin, traced him but they could not get him as he escaped to his pastor house before they invaded his father house and with the anger in them, they burnt down the house and started shooting gun sporadically to scare external attack.
The source added that Idehen John and his two friends who escaped have, been declared wanted by both the police and the cultists who vowed to fish them out to kill, especially the said Idehen John whom they said was their prime suspect being the cause of the problem, just as the police said that if arrested, he would be jailed for 7yrs with hard labour.
