Ekpoma – The British mathematician and philosopher, A.N. Whitehead argued that pre-civilization man was largely a product of basic primitive instincts that operated on the most rudimentary human reflexes almost entirely devoid of reason predicated on merely barbaric flashes of thought.
But as civilization culminates, mankind has left those primitive barbarism for a coordinating philosophy of life. But in some African societies, there appears to be some evidence of the continuation of primitive practices that are so barbaric, repulsive, and contrary to good conscience as to stagger believe.
Reports reaching our news desk from Ekpoma, the administrative capital of Esan West Local Government Area Of Edo State has it that issues surrounding alleged human sacrifices is at the center of the disappearance of a young man identified as Aigbedion Oriakhi Jeff. According to our investigation, the said Aigbedion Oriakhi Jeff was before his sudden disappearance, a servant serving in the ancestral shrine of the Inojie Of Ekpoma. Indeed, our investigation gathered that it was the duty of all male children of the Aigbedion family to serve as a kind of servant at the palace or shrine of the traditional rulers of Ekpoma.
According to a close source that spoke to our news desk on the condition of anonymity, the said Aigbedion Oriakhi Jeff has confided in him that he ( Aigbedion Oriakhi Jeff) overheard one of the palace chiefs (name withheld) saying that Aigbedion Oriakhi Jeff’s father ( Aigbedion Benson) who also suddenly disappeared and was never found, was used as a kind of sacrificial lamb and offered as an oblation to the gods to cleanse the land.
The young man was reportedly frightened to the bones on overhearing the chief telling another chief how the last sacrifice where Aigbedion Benson was used, is no longer potent enough and the need for another human sacrifice.
As at press time, the whereabouts of the said Aigbedion Oriakhi Jeff has not yet been ascertained, and it may well be that he has met the same fate as his father.
However, according to our source, the young man may have fled Ekpoma in search of his mother who is said to be living somewhere in Benin City.
