A 38-years oldman, Sunday Atekha Okono, have been reported missing by his family following the assassination of his parents, Mr and Mrs Godwin Okono, who were allegedly murdered over disputed land matter.
The spokesman of the Okono family, Pa Bartholomew Okono, who briefed the media on the issues, said trouble started when the land belonging to Sunday’s father was sold by the Amagba Community Develoment Association (CDA) Chairman, Mr Andrew Okundia.
The patriarch of the Okono family said the land titled which their son (Godwin) had held for over five years, was sold by the CDA chairman without his knowledge.
According to him, when the news of the land sale got to him (Godwin), he immediately drew the attention of the chairman to it, but he was shocked when the chairman told him there was nothing we could do about it.
He said Godwin who followed up with he phone call by setting up a meeting with the chairman to resolve the issue, noted however, that the chairman came up with the promise to deal with matter his own way.
“It was after unsuccessful attempt to get the CDA chairman to act on it that he (Godwin) went to the community elders to report the matter.
“This move however, turned out to me my brother’s undoing as the next thing that happen was calls and messages of threat for him to forget the land matter.
“This did not go down well with Godwin who insisted on finding justice, even after several warning personally by the CDA chairman, Okundia.
“But the Okono family experienced the worst nightmare of their lives when a night preceding when the elders were to meet on the matter, my brother’s house was invaded with armed gunmen and in the process, murdered him and his wife,” he said.
Continuing, Elder Okono said the matter did not just end there as the hired gunmen vowed to come for every family member of Gdowin, especially his son, Sunday.
According to him, “It was not just an empty threat, as they thereafer, tried unsuccessful to eliminate Sunday, the eldest son of Godwin. it is by His Grace that we still have Sunday alive.
“But he last incident that happened left many of us bewilded, how the boy (Sunday) managed to escape been killed is one thing we the family members are still trying to unravel.
“We only got to find out he is alive because he called to inform us that we should not worry about him and that he will be fine.
“Our worry now is that he told us that before he managed to escape, the people told him that he will be traced to any part of the county to be slaughtered like his parents.
“The police are not even helping matter as they are in the payroll of these CDAs. All we want now is help, especially to ensure the safety of our son, Sunday,” he said.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Mr Moses Nkonbe, said investigation have been launched into the matter.
