BENIN CITY – One person has been confirmed dead after a clash between supporters of the two major political parties in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was gathered that the person whose name was given as Osas Igue, a brother to one Lucky Igue died after an argument between members of the two parties which gravitated to exchange of words before degenerating to a fight.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lucky Igue, a suspect and principal actor in the crisis, is said to be on the run since the death of the party supporter who is his relation.

Lucky Igue who was said to have registered with the APC since 2012, it was gathered is a Libya returnee and a members of the party in Ward 4 of Oredo Local Government Area of the State.

Trouble was said to have started when Libya returnees, including Igue embarked on a solidarity marched to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and later to Government House, Benin City to solicit support of government.

After the protest, some members of the opposition PDP accused Igue that the government he worked for in the last governorship election in the state has failed the electorate and hence has no sympathy for the returnees.

This allegation which did not go down well with Igue ignited a fight between members of the two political parties which allegedly led to the death of his brother, while others sustained various degree of injuries in the fracas.

Though the Police was yet to make an official statement on the matter, our source at the Edo Command of the Nigeria Police told our crime correspondent that the Police was in the trail of Igue and some other persons fingered in the crisis.
