Benin City: A 23 year-old- man Kelvin Eweka is wanted by the police in Benin over his alleged involvement in the assassination of a prominent lawyer in the city Barr Agbontaen Odiase.

According to a statement signed by the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Osifo, Kelvin who escaped from lawful custody of the police is about 1.70 meters tall, fair in complexion and speaks Benin and English laguages fluently.

The police urged any member of the the public with useful information as to the whereabouts of Kelvin Eweka whose last known address is no. 7 Azama Street off Wire Road, Oredo LGA of Edo State should please report to the nearest police station as a handsome reward awaits such informant.

However, investigation by The Nigerian Observer revealed that the family of Kelvin Eweka are unaware of his whereabouts insisting therefore that the police should produce their son who they knew was taken in by the police authorities over a matter he knew nothing about.

Spokes person for the family Mr Kingley Idahosa said their brother had no reason to contemplate killing the lawyer who was helping him prosecute a case of medical murder of his mother who was at that time pregnant by some untrained medical personnel who transfused HIV virus infected blood into her, a situation that caused her death.

Mr Idahosa said further that Kelvin’s father also died from aids having picked up the virus from his infected wife while giving her care on her sick bed at the hospital against which a case of murder was instituted.

He said the deceased lawyer had taken pity on Kelvin Eweka helping him with the prosecution of the matter before his tragic death.

But the police are insisting that the escapee must be fished out to face charges as preliminary investigations point to his culpability in the crime since he was the last person who spoke with the slain lawyer on phone the morning he was murdered.
