IKPESHI (EDO) – A Snr manager in a mining company in Edo State, Mr Friday Amenaghawon has accused the Police of complicity in the escape of a principal suspect, Egiaruoyi Evans in a robbery incident that occurred on May 2, 2016 in which items worth about #36.5 million were stolen.

The items included explosives, ammonium, fuse caps and cords.

The company, Amenacon Nigeria Enterprise, located on Plot 12 Freedom Way, Ikpeshi, Edo North Senatorial district is into blasting and mining of natural resources.

According to Friday, Evans who absented himself from duty without permission on the day of the incident and other accomplice, including the store officer were arrested and detained by Policemen from the Auchi Area Command few days after the incident.

He said the store officer had indicted Evans of conspiring with the others to vandalise the company and made away with the explosives and other mining materials.

He said the management of the company was in the process of making the suspects sign undertaken to pay for the items when the news filtered in that Evans has masterminded the beaten to death of some of the suspects in Police custody.

Consequently, he said that the management has called for transfer of the case to the State Police Headquarters in Benin City, from would further be transferred to Abuja Headquarters of the Police because the Police in Auchi compromised to facilitate Evans escape from their custody.

Meanwhile, the family of some of the dead suspects are threatening to sue the Police and Evans for what they considered their role in the death of their relations.

The Police Public Relations Officer could not be reached for comments on the matter as at press time.

However, a Snr. Police officer in the command who would not want to be quoted because he has no authority to speak to the press said the have launched a manhunt for Evans

According to him, the Police authorities have placed a one million naira reward for anyone with information that could lead to his arrest.
