BENIN CITY – The menace of cultism continues to elude all known panacea as the scourge has refused to go, everyday reports keep coming of killing, maiming , raping and other cult related violence on our campuses , schools and even our streets. No decent society can long exist if it fails to protect its young ones from such vices as cultism, the present situation in the country is such that demands a quick intervention from all concerned. The approach must be multi-faceted , it must begin from home as strict family values and respect for lives and properties must be inculcated into our children at a very tender age.
Report reaching us from Calabar, the Cross River State capital, has it that another round of cult fight has broken out between two rival cult gangs, the Klans Confraternity and the Black Axe Confraternity.
According to reports, a 200-Level micro-biology student was gunned down along Pinn Margaret Secondary School end of Atakpa Street by suspected members of the Klans Confraternity reportedly led by one Collins Edomwonyi.
Our sources further reveal that the fight has escalated to Benin City in Edo State where members of the Black Axe Confraternity allegedly attacked the family home of Collins Edomwonyi in an apparently revenge attack. According to investigation, the mother of Collins Edomwonyi was killed in the reprisal attack while the identical twin brother of Collins Edomwonyi managed to escape with his life. The identical twin brother named Felx Edomwonyi was obviously the target because the attackers were believed to have mistaken him for his notorious brother.
As at press time, the whereabouts of Felix Edomwonyi can not be ascertained as he has gone into hiding for fear of his life.
Our source reveal that there is no love lost between the identical twin brothers who hardly see eye to eye on any issue. There is the need to enact stricter laws against membership of cult groups and also to ensure the implementation of the existing laws . In the meantime , it is hoped that Felix Edomwonyi is safe and all those responsible for the brutal death of his mother are made to face the full wrath of the law.
