BENIN CITY – A social-political group made up of Edo indigenes in the Diaspora has pledged its support for the governorship ambition of Mr. Godwin Obaseki in the September 10, 2016 governorship election in Edo State.
The group, “Godwin Obaseki Diaspora Support Group,” led by Barrister Efosa Ogieriakhi, with members drawn from the United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, amongst others.
According to Barr. Ogieriakhi, members took the decision to support Mr. Obaseki to succeed out-going governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole because “he (Obaseki) is the best person for the governorship position.”
The Obaseki support group disclosed that after painstakingly looking into the credentials of all the persons aspiring to contest the governorship seat, irrespective of the political parties they belong, Mr. Godwin Obaseki was favoured.
Barr. Ogieriakhi further disclosed that as a way to double check their findings, a tele-conference was recently held with Mr. Obaseki who is contesting the Edo State governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said during the tele-conference, Mr. Obaseki revealed to the satisfaction of all members of the group the plans he (governorship hopeful) has to industrialize the state and provide jobs for the teeming unemployed people in the state.
“He (Obaseki) said industrialization is about creating a peaceful and conducive environment for investors to invest and that he will be liaising directly with possible investors to come to Edo State and invest.
“He ( Obaseki) also disclosed that the wealthiest African, Aliko Dangote was already building industries in Edo State,” noting that “many more investors would follow suit even as there was an energy structure on ground which is expected to stimulate production of small and large scale establishment.
“On the need for even development among the various ethnic groups and local government areas, Mr. Obaseki assured us that there were plans to evenly spread amenities among all the council areas to prevent marginalization”.
The Godwin Obaseki Diaspora Support Group, therefore called on Edo people to support the governorship aspiration of Mr. Obaseki because he is the best of all those seeking to be the governor of the state.
Mr. Godwin Obaseki is presently the Chairman of the Economic Team and Strategy in Edo State.
