UBIAJA: The crisis rocking the Esan South East Local Government chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, has claimed the life of the ward chairman in the locality, Comrade Friday Ukpebor and his house burnt.
The party chieftain was allegedly burnt inside his car after some persons suspected to be aggrieved party members attacked his home on April 27,2016 at about 6pm.
The NIGERIAN OBSERVER gathered that the late party ward chairman was accosted at the entrance of the gate to his home by a group of persons believed to be thugs after attending a meeting where he had altercation with some party members over the sharing of money given to him in preparation for the 2016 governorship election in Edo state.
The late politician was alleged to have diverted substantial amount of the funds for himself, an allegation which he had vehemently denied.
Our reporter gathered that the late politician had been under intense pressure from some aggrieved PDP members in his ward for him to properly account for the money brought by party. for the 2015 presidential election was spent. He was alleged to have pocketed the money meant for mobilisation towards the 2016 governorship election in the state.
It was further learnt that his refusal to render proper accounts on how the party funds were shared had pitched him against some party members, leading to crisis in the local chapter of the People’s Democratic Party.
He was said to have attended a meeting called to resolve the crisis in the party where he was threatened by some aggrieved party members.
He was subsequently attacked at the entrance to his home by some unidentified persons who poured some liquid substance believed to be petrol on him while still inside his car before setting him ablaze. His house was also completely burnt down.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih has denounced the killing of Comrade Friday Ukpebor as the handiwork of political opponents
Chief Orbih said the party abhors violence ,and called on the police to fish out the killers of the late politician.
