Lagos – No fewer than 10 people were murdered in cool blood at the early hours of Friday morning in an organised attack targeting Yorubas living in Ikorodu suburds.

Source said that the attackers came in several speed boats after which they moved from one home to the other attacking and killing mainly Yoruba rural residents.

The incidence took place at Igbo Olomu, a rural community in Ikorodu on Friday morning.

The eye witness said, “They came armed to the teeth. They came through the creeks. They has charms and armlets tied to their body. I can tell you that people are right now moving away from their homes in large numbers”.

Source who did not think that the attackers aimed specifically at the Yoruba people said.
“It was random killings. They were killing people anyhow. Some Igbo people were killed too. But I think it was an organized attack”.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent,an official of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Mr Niyi Ojuwo said his group was alerted in the morning but that it could not effectively respond because of lack of adequate equipment to counter the attacks.

“Several Yoruba people were killed. I counted 10 bodies. The armed men came in speed boats and started killing our people at random. Many people have fled their homes since the incidence”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State command Adulmajid Ali said some militants from the Niger-Delta region are fleeing the oil producing areas in the search for safer haven following the onslaught by the military.

However, Ojuwo said he was suspicious of the statement of the Police Commissioner adding that he was too quick to identify the attackers are Ijaw militants why the same authorities had not been able to identify the attacks on Ekiti community as that carried out by the Fulani herdsmen.

“The police commissioner is Hausa-Fulani. He identified the attackers as Ijaw and I hope its not an attempt to set the Ijaw people against the Yoruba people.”

He urged the police to fish out the criminals so as to ascertain their origin and mission.

He added,“The Yoruba are under siege. They are being attacked by Hausa-Fulani and now by some armed creek boys.”

The mobile numbers of the Police Public Relations officer, Lagos command were not through as at the time of filling this report to confirm the incident.
