BENIN CITY : A serving police personnel attached to the St.Savour Police Division, Benin City, F.No/13583 Corporal Isibor Emmanuel has been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force for alleged murder case.
Corporal Isibor was alleged to have pushed one Jerry Omorodion into an oncoming vehicle during a brief argument between him and the deceased on May 1,2016. The deceased sustained multiple fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The incident said to have occurred at Osaretin street in the volatile Upper Sakponba area of the city, triggered a massive protest by angry youths which led to the destruction of properties and looting of shops.
Corporal Isibor was subsequently arrested, court marshalled and remanded in police custody after the Commissioner of Police ordered a thorough investigation into the incident following a petition by the aggrieved family of the deceased.
A police statement in Benin City yesterday said Corporal Isibor Emmanuel escaped from the custody while awaiting to be formally charged to court.
It urged any member of the public with useful information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect to report to the Criminal Investigation Department or the nearest police station within and outside Edo State.
