Ibadan-An Islamic organization, The Muslim Congress (TMC) has decried the high rate of poverty in the country , calling on the federal government to put an end to it by putting all necessary measures in place to improve the living standard of Nigerians.

Making this call in his paper at this year’s post-Ramadan lecture titled: “Change Phenomenon: The Islamic Perspective”, in Ibadan, was the group’s deputy national president (Ameer), Ustaz Isma’eel Adekunle Busayri

He said that it was sad to note that the the successive administrations in the country were the brains behind our present economic woes .

He lamented that despite the availability resources in the country, majority of the people were still unable to avoid the three square meal per day.

According to him, “there is no country in the world that God blessed like Nigeria, yet her people still in abject poverty.”

The islamic cleric deposed that despite  that the country was making huge money from petroleum , no effort was being made by the leaders to plan and invest for the future.

“Rather than investing , our leaders are busy accumulating wealth for themselves, their families even  their unborn children at the detriment of the country and her people.”

While noting  that the Buhari-led administration was on the path of restoring the country’s lost glory, he said secularism, modernism and corruption brought decadence to the country.

The cleric who identified rule of law, transparency, accountability, security and responsive as part of good governance, called on the federal government to ensure that both male and female, young and old has a say in the government.
He said that all government activities must be carried our in accordance with the law of the land, adding “the watering meadow belong to all, irrespective of wealth or age.

Busayri commended the government for being responsive and transparent I all its activities in the past one year and assured Nigerians that the country would soon return to economic greatness.

Also speaking, the group’s coordinator in Oyo State, Ustaz Salaudeen Ayubi said the annual event was to abreast members of the happenings in the country.

While noting that the word change was synonymous with the present administration’s agenda, he said it was normal for people or society to change from bad to good and worse for better.
