IGUEBEN-The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State has held a reconciliation meeting to reconcile members who were aggrieved by the outcome of the party’s gubernatorial primary.

The meeting which held in Ekpon Community, at the residence of the deputy speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Justin Okonebo, was organized by the host to unite APC members ahead of the September 10, 2016 governorship election.

It would be recalled that the events leading to the APC governorship primary in the state, precipitated acrimony among party members due to diverse loyalties.

Addressing party members at the meeting, the speaker of Edo State House Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Ativie, advised party members to put behind them negative issues the governorship primary generate.

She explained that the administration of Adams Oshiomhole had provided the state with unprecedented development strides, hence that party must be allowed to continue in order not to truncate progressive movement of the state.

Ativie who disclosed that her late grand-mother hailed from Igueben Local Government, said the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Godwin Obaseki possessed the requisite capacity to build on the achievements of the current governor.

“Go with APC that you can trust, that has delivered rather than the one that is making promises you are not sure it can keep”, she warned.

The organizer of the meeting, Hon. Okonebo said the meeting was organized to bring every body together to be able of muster the required strength towards the general elections.

“The night after the primary election, some youths were jubilating, saying they have won. I found this very annoying. Primary is just a family contest to pick a candidate, so if you jubilate, you will alienate the other people and you will not be able to muster enough strength for the general election. That is why a felt it was necessary to bring every body together again to face the common enemy”, he explained.

Okonebo who described that reconciliation meeting as a huge success, said the meeting was necessary to strengthen the bond of unity, adding that the party was in a good shape now to confront the common enemy-the PDP.

The chairman, Reconciliation Committee in the state, Prince Malik Afegbua while addressing the gathering said the party has put the primary behind it and was now looking forward to the general September 10 governorship election.

He said his committee had succeeded in convincing aggrieved members to put aside grievances, to form a united front.
