BENIN CITY- Apparently scared of being killed by the Odionwere ( Community Head) of Obaretin Community in Benin City, Edo State, Pa. Ehis Obanor, a middle aged man, one Efe Ovbokhan, have, disappeared to unknown location according to sources in the community.
It was scooped that the fleeing Ovbokhan who was recently discharged and acquitted of alleged case of theft and armed robbery by a Magistrate Court in Benin City alleged to have been levelled against him by the Odionwere according to multiple sources is on the wanted list of some daredevil boys said to be led by Pa. Ehis.
Speaking with Our Crime Correspondent, a female source who spoke on the conditions of anonymity over fear of being attack narrated that Ovbokhan’s ordeal started sometime in August, 2014, following the gruesome murder of his parents by the community head allegedly.
She said that Pa. Efe and his wife were murdered few days after demanding for land money he sold to the Odionwere after untold hardship enveloped his family, adding that the village head who was hell-bent on grabbing the deceased land angrily walked Pa. Efe out of his compound without paying him a dime.
She said: “my house is next to Pa. Efe’s house and we have been neighbours for our 40 years. But we were shocked when some of the Odionwere’s armed boys in Commando-like style stormed Pa. Efe’s house after chasing us into our house and all we could heard were gunshots coming out of Pa. Efe’s house.
“We equally heard a loud shout from Ovbokhan, Pa. Efe’s son who we later discovered was inflicted with machete cut injury in his arms as he was later arrested by the police on frivolous theft and armed robbery allegations by the Odionwere.
“We were shocked to discovered the lifeless bodies of Pa. Efe and his wife in their pool of blood as we later heard that the man and his wife were killled by armed thugs sent by the Odionwere over Efe’s landed property sold to him and the Odionwere was bent in confisticating the land.
“The deceased’s son Ovbokhan who the Odionwere wanted to be killed by his armed boys was recently discharged and acquitted by the court of the robbery allegations after spending two years in trials, specifically in July 2016.
” But on sighting Ovbokhan few days after his release from prison custody, the Odionwere and his thugs renew their onslaught on him and attempted to eliminate him in one of the ocassions and this could be the reason the man (Ovbokhan) may have ran to unknown destination for safety”, she disclosed.
Contacted, the police image-maker in Edo State, DSP Nkombe Phillip, confirmed the incident, revealing that no arrest has been made in connection with the incidence.
A top police source told our Correspondent that the Odionwere of Obaretin is a strong ally of the police and very influencial in the society, hence, no one can arrest him or his boys.
As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts and safety of Efe Ovbokhan remain could not be ascertained.
