BENIN CITY – Tragedy was said to have struck the family of Mr. Samuel Ukponmwan of No. 6 Akenzua Street, Off I Care Centre Way, in Benin City on Sunday July 10, 2016 as the patriarch , Mr. Samuel Ukponmwan was allegedly shot death by suspected gunmen in Egor Local Government Area of the city.

According to sources close to the family, “gunmen suspected to be hired assassins storm the family residence on that fateful day, shouting at the top of their voices before shooting Mr. Ukponmwan severally at close range.

Another family source who pleaded anonymity revealed that the gunmen who appeared to be on a mission to wipe out the entire family over unresolved landed property dispute, saw one of the deceased children (Fredrick), whom they believed could identify them before the law enforcement agents wanted to eliminate him also but several shots at him missed the target as he narrowly escaped death by the whiskers from the assassins bullets.

“When the gunmen left, we attempted to rescue our patriarch by rushing him to a nearby medical facility, but he was confirmed death by the team of doctors on duty”, the source said.

Although the dastardly act was reported to the police, the identity of the suspected assassins could not be ascertained at press time as investigation was still ongoing.
