OVIA NORTH EAST- The family of one Pa. Roland in Iguosa Community, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State have been thrown into murning and apprehension following the gruesome attack that reportedly led to the death of Pa. Roland Ojo.
The incident according to eyewitness account occurred August 20, 2016, as the deceased was alleged to have aided the escape of his son, one Alvin Roland, a murder suspect.
Speaking with our Crime Correspondent, an eyewitness who pleaded for anonymity disclosed that some armed youths in a commando-like-manner stormed residence of the deceased in search of Alvin who they accused of killing his childhood friend Osagie
The witness added “All efforts made by Pa. Roland to convince the rampaging youths about his ignorance of Roland’s whereabouts failed as the irked youths unleashed mayhem on him, which later led to his death and they set Pa. Roland’s house ablazed”
Narrating what led to the unfortunate incident, the witness explained Alvin Roland was accused of poisoning his friend, one Osagie Akugbe to death by the people.
Alvin Roland our source said got contract to clear a 100×100 plot of farm land for cultivation on August 9, 2016
“He (Alvin) invited his friend, Akugbe along with a view to assisting him on the farm job such that at the completion of the job both would share the contract payment.
“Roland, the next day brought food from home to the farm which Akugbe may have eaten from.
“While Roland was working , Akugbe screamed loudly, indicating that there was danger, and this was said to have attracted Roland who promptly rushed to the scene where he discovered some foaming substance in his friend’s mouth, an indication that he allegedly ate poisonous substance.
“Roland and other people working in their farms rushed him (Akugbe) to the nearby local clinic where he was later confirmed to have died of poison.
“The ugly incident triggered controversy and pandemonium in the community as both family of the deceased and the youths in the community accused Alvin Roland of killing his childhood friend and thereby declared him wanted”, our source concluded
Contacted for comment, the State Police Image maker, DSP Ojo Sunday, while confirming the incident disclosed that the police have commenced preliminary investigation with a view to bringing the murder suspect, Alvin Roland to justice and those that spearheaded the burning of Pa Roland’s house
He, however, revealed that the police have declared the fleeing murder suspect, Alvin Roland wanted.
