BENIN CITY – Edo Elite Group based in North America has expressed its support for Mr Godwin Obaseki as the next governor of Edo State even as it lauded the developmental strides of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in the last seven years in the state.
The USA-based group, a non-religious, non-political group comprising of dynamic well-meaning Edo people said it took the position after it keenly followed the socio political & economic developments in Edo state in the past few years.
The group disclosed this in a statement endorsed by its Chairman Hon. Andrew Idaho , and Secretary General Hon. Mike Aliu, and made available to The NIGERIAN OBSERVER in Benin City.
The group stated that Edo people are highly industrious, well-educated and very enterprising noting however that if merit alone were the criterion, most institutions in Nigeria governmental and non-governmental will be dominated by well qualified people from Edo state.
It however bemoaned the unfortunate neglect by corrupt past government which resulted in the decay of infrastructural development in the state.
“Unfortunately, from the 1990’s up until recently, most of the gains were lost due to a combination of corruption, neglect and bad governance.
“Since 2008, the government of Adams Oshiomhole has tried to arrest this trend.
“Some progress was made but there’s a lot more work left to do. At this point, we the Edo Elite Group along with the people of Edo state have something to look forward to, we have the hope and a firm belief that better days lie ahead.
“We want a government that can recognize and build upon the good works of the previous administrations while being honest enough to acknowledge areas of failures and discarding or reforming those areas; a government that will match economic development with fiscal responsibility; a government that understands that the governing body cannot do it alone but must carry the majority of the populace along.
“A government that understands that good roads, stable electric supply, reliable water supply and affordable communications are not a luxury but a necessary pre-requisite for genuine development, a government that understands that in order to have meaningful development. A government that puts the interest of its people above every other consideration.
“On this basis, we the members of Edo Elite Group USA have thrown our support behind Godwin Obaseki as the next governor of our dear state. We have full confidence in Mr Obaseki and his team and have no doubt that Edo state will witness more progress under him”. The group statement read in parts.
The Elite Group however enjoined all the citizens of Edo state to support Godwin Obaseki for the revamping and regeneration of the state.
