IGUOBAZUWA (Benin City) – The Edo State 2016 gubernatorial elections may have come and gone but the last is yet to be heard of the violence and the massive vote buying that accompanied that election.

Reports reaching our news desk from Iguoriakhi in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State have it that some members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party in the area are having a kind of internal strife among themselves as a result of accusations and counter accusations over the outcome of the elections and the loss the opposition suffered.

According to information reaching our news desk, a popular party stalwart in Ward 3, Ovia South-West Local Government who goes by the name Monday Edo is said to be embroiled in a fight with some prominent opposition party youth leaders Iguoriakhi led by the Ward youth leader, Orobosa Ogiemudia.

The issue, according to our source, has to do with the conduct of the election in the Local Government Area and the role played by some youths who are believed to have sabotaged the chances of the party during the election.

The said Monday Edo is believed to have disbursed about N500,000 to some youths in the community to secure the victory of the party in the community.

Trouble, however, began soon after the release of the election result where the ruling All Progressives Party was declared winner.

Reports reaching us indicate that Monday Edo has accused the youth leaders of not distributing the money to voters but rather pocketing the money.

He is said to have outrightly demanded for a refund of the money. But the Orobosa Ogiemudia led youths insisted that the money has been expended for the purpose it was meant for which is to buy votes and that the reason for their loss in the election was due to the fact that the ruling party gave out more money to secure votes than their party.

This argument however failed to convince Monday Edo who has a reputation for ruthlessness and brutality.

Our source further revealed that the fracas has further deepened following the refusal of the Orobosa Ogiemudia led youth to return the money.

The situation has deteriorated to the extent that Monday Edo thugs stormed the house of Orobosa Ogiemudia with orders to maim him if he refuses to bring out the money.

The said Orobosa Ogiemudia is believed to have fled the town for fear of his life as party elders and chieftains appear incapable of resolving the issue, many of them are believed to be in mortal fear of Monday Edo whose reputation for violence is well known.
