BENIN CITY — Ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Oredo Ward 5 Youth Leader,Charles Iyekehegbe,has fled over alleged threats to his life, by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over his roles in ensuring his Party, APC,won the just concluded September 2016 Edo State Governorship election, just as he had escaped assassination attempts.
The PDP members in state, particularly in Oredo local government area ,who say the said Charles Iyekehegbe political stronghold as threats to their( PDP)winning in the election had previously threatened to kill him if he does not play safe for the election.
Speaking to The NIGERIAN OBSERVER,a member of the APC in ward 5,who identified himself as William Udo ,said that trouble however started at the polling unit ,when the thugs allegedly sponsored by the PDP to cause mayhem to influence the snatching of ballot boxes and commit other electoral malpractices, to enhance winning to his party.
He said that the moves that were resisted by the APC youths to the extent that fracas erupted and as a result,voters began to scamper for safety and in the process, the security personnel detailed to give security were able to quench the plans initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) thugs.
He further said that based on that, the All Progressive Congress (APC) now have sympathy votes which precipitated the winning of the governorship candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki in the state.
He added that after the results,the PDP members threatened to kill Charles Iyekehegbe for making their party lost and as such,they were trailing him to killed for his roles in the defeat PDP suffered.They trailed him to his house to eliminate,but he escaped as he was not at home when the killers came.
William Udo said despite that he had escaped, they are still threatening to kill him.
