IKPOBA-OKHA – It was a gory sight to behold as bloody violence erupted in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state during the September 28, 2016 Edo state Governorship election leading to property worth millions of naira destroyed and lives lost.
It was learned that the violence was as a result of the clash between the Youths of the two leading political parties in the country which arose from counter accusations between the supporters of the parties.
As both party supporters battled for the success of their parties during the election in which the brother to the assistant youth leader of the Peoples Democratic party, Oisamoje Steven Ohiole contested in the 2015, the All Progressive Congress (APC) allegedly accused the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) of attempting to snatch the ballot boxes, an allegation the PDP youths led by the party’s assistant youth leader, Oisamoje Steven Ohiole countered.
The PDP alleged that APC was using the federal might to harass and intimidate its members, hence they protested in view of fighting for their rights.
The situation however escalated and later spread to community where property, including houses and vehicles were burnt to ashes, Lives Lost.
However, there is palpable fear in the area as the security agencies, including the police and DSS have began to clamp down on those suspected to have masterminded the election violence.
According to reliable sources, though some suspected names have been arrested in connection with the incident for prosecution the security authorities are currently on the trail of the assistant youth leader of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) , Oisamoje Steven Ohiole who has since disappeared to unknown destination for cover and safety.
As at the time of filling this report the police have deployed its intelligent crack team across the nook and cranny of the state with a view to apprehend Steven Ohiole who has been alleged to have been the Assistant youth leader the PDP masterminded the clashes.
As a result, the police further vowed that anytime Ohiole is found within or offshore of the country, he would be apprehended and prosecuted.
