The Restoration Group, an arm in the Edo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) yesterday in Benin called for the immediate resignation of the State Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih and its State Executive.

The leader of the group, Humble Uyi Igbinigie who made this statement in a press conference said he was convinced that the outcome of the rescheduled 10th to 28th September governorship election won by the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Godwin Obaseki was not only free, fair or credible but one devoid of the usual violence that characterised the outcome of past elections in Edo state.

According to him, “in the just concluded election that was held on the 28th earlier planned for 10th of same month, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had one of their finest outing since the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Unlike the elections held in Kogi, Rivers and Bayelsa, it was free of the usual violence and that gave it the generally accepted notion that it was free and fair”.

He said further that PDP made a huge mistake for feeding Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as her candidate noting that the revelations emanating from the Dasukigate scandal was enough to disqualify him yet they refused to yield to popular demands.

His words: ” During the build up to the primaries and after PDP lost the general elections, and when President Buhari was sworn in, the revelations of how much money were stolen by members of the GEJ ‘team’ cast much permanent shadows of darkness on PDP.

“PDP was seen by all, even some of its honest members, as a party of corrupt elements. The Dasuki slush was something that was more of a scar than a mere scandal. Pastor Ize Iyamu that was contesting was among those who took part of the slush N7 million for presidential election”, he said.

He reiterated that Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s visit to EFCC cast a painful shadow on the propriety of the party, saying: ” His visit to EFCC on the matter left a sore pain in the campaigns.

“How do you explain that your incoming governor was visiting the EFCC on corrupt case that was moral than legal?”.

On the activities and attitude of state Exco members, he said, “Dan Orbih in connivance with his cronies skewed the primary and gave the nomination to Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu who we all know to be carrying the baggage of failed PDP government of 8 years that makes Edo people to despite our party”.
Humble maintained that instead of Dan Orbih to engage on issue-based campaign during the electioneering, he was busy raining abuses and churning out unfounded allegations on the person of Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

He, however, urged the PDP with these demands, stating as follows, “that Chief Dan Orbih and his exco should resigned as a matter of urgency and that a caretaker committee should be constituted to pilot the affair of the party before next congress.

“That the party should prosecute all those who collected money for election and pocketed them and that the party should not encourage going to Tribunal to waste members time and resources because the outcome of the election was free and fair”.
