Akure – Sen. Ahmed Makarfi led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in the newly constituted panel of the Court of Appeal to hear the appeal filed by the faction.

The PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Banji Okunomo, made this known to newsmen in Akure on Thursday, while insisting that Eyitayo Jegede was the authentic candidate of party.

Okunomo said the faction would get justice at the appellate court, alleging that there was injustice in the Oct. 12 judgment of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

“We believe in the law, we are protected by the law.

“The law is on our side to produce the candidate of our party because the only lawful PDP primary was held in Ondo State and was monitored by the INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders on Aug. 22.

“We believe that the judgment of Justice Abang will not stand in the face of the law. The same lawyer that stood for Biyi Poroye as a plaintiff also stood as a lawyer for the defendant.

“This cannot stand at the Court of Appeal. Our action is on the law and we believe we are going to get justice at the appellate court,” he said.

The faction is challenging the ruling of the lower court which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Mr Jimoh Ibrahim as the authentic candidate of the party for the Nov. 26, governorship election.

The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, on Wednesday constituted a fresh panel to hear the appeals.

The Justice Jumai Sankey-led panel had withdrawn from further presiding over the cases following a petition by one of the respondents in the cases, Mr Biyi Poroye against the panel.
