AUCHI – The tussle over possession of one of the landed property of Late Mr Anamhomhe Salami in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State has taken a new dimension with the murder of his brother, Mr. Emmanuel Salami by Daniel Anamhomhe, the son of his late brother.

Daniel is the eldest son of the Late Anamhomhe.

The tussle over possession of the landed property began immediately after his death and subsequent burial when his widow moved to take possession of the land by using it for farming purpose.

This development did not go down well with Emmanuel who ordered Mrs Anamhomhe to vacate the farmland or incure his wrath.

For fear of the unknown, Mrs Anamhomhe reported the matter to family elders who were said to have conveyed a family meeting to look into the matter.

Dissatisfied with the direction of deliberations at the meeting, Emmanuel was said to have walked out, an action, the elders viewed with contempt.

Before the walkout from the meeting, Emmanuel was said to have threatened the late brother’s wife that there are dire consequences if she refuses to quit the farmland.

Taking the threat with the least seriousness, on November 29, 2016, Mrs. Anamhomhe was said to have hired two labourers to till the farmland, with a view to cultivating seed plants.

While working on the land, Emmanuel was said to have arrived to meet the labourers working and therefore ordered them to stop work immediately.

Coincidentally, in the evening of that day, when Daniel arrive home, his mother briefed him on the action of his uncle.

She was said to have also told him of how the uncle threatened her with a machete, consequent of which he later confronted the uncle.

He told him that the entire community was aware of his oppressive tendencies toward him and his mother.

Daniel was also said to have reminded his uncle of how he (Emmanuel) poisoned his late father to death.

An altercation, it was reliably gathered ensued, leading to a scuffle in which Emmanuel brought out a machete and attempted to hit Daniel

During the scuffle, Daniel was said to have overpowered his uncle, dispossess him of the machete which he used to hit him (Emmanuel).

Our source disclosed that the effect of the machete wound made him (Emmanuel) fall to the ground, with blood gushing out from the injured part of his body.

He was rushed to a private health facility in Auchi where he died later that day.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the Police authorities have launched a manhunt for Daniel since the incident as his whereabout was unknown as at press time.

A Snr. Police officer said a case of murder is likely to be instituted against him.
