AUCHI- Residents of Auchi the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area were on Wednesday December 28, 2016 thrown into confusion following a bizarre occurrence of homosexual activity involving an undergraduate of Auchi Polytechnic Nasiru Kowi and his partner Gabriel Collins.
The two gay exponents were said to have been caught in the inlicit sexual rump by a vigilant uncle of Nasiru who promptly raised an alarm which attracted a large crowd of enraged residents who promptly vented their anger on the offenders.
It was gathered that the enraged mob reportedly broke into the room where the two lover birds had been locked in by Nasiru’s uncle onstensibly to entrap them for the eventual beating by the natives who view same sexual relationship as a taboo of the highest order.
Sources close to the scene of crime said Nasiru Kowi escaped through the window after sensing that danger was looming, but his partner was however not as fortunate as the motley crowd descended on him mercilessly untill he became unconcious.
He was said to have died before any help could come his way after he was taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the police in Auchi has launched investigation into the incident and have declared Nasiru Kowi wanted.
Homosexual practices aside being criminalised in the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act of 2014, most comunities in Nigeria see it as an abomination and as a result do not tolerate or condone it.
When contacted the police headquarters in Benin besides confirming the incident said the command has launched a man hunt for Nasiru Kowi and all those linked with the cold blooded murder of his partner Gabriel Collins.
Speaking through its Public Relations Officer Moses Nkombe DSP, the police said jungle justice remains a criminal offence in Nigeria and the police would not condone it.
He advised Nigerians against taking the laws into their hands but should report every incident to the police who he said had the constitutional responsibility to deal with such cases.
