After three years of investigation into the gruesome killing of a woman in her three bedroom apartment in Benin City, the police have declared the deceased son, one Akhere Odian wanted in the murder case.
The police alleged that their investigation revealed that the suspect used a sharp object to kill his mother identified as Mrs Cicilia Akhere, and fled to an unknown location.
The unfortunate incident occurred in 2014 at 8, Izekor Street, Upper Sokponba road, Benin City.
This was contained in a police release endorsed for the commissioner of police in Edo State by the police command’s Public Relations Officer DSP Moses Nkombe and made available to the NIGERIAN OBSERVER newspaper in Benin City, yesterday.
It explains that the account on the murder given to police by the deceased husband and father of the suspect one Mr John Akhere and police discreet investigation over the years, indicated that the woman was killed by her own son.
The police spokesman disclosed that the suspect Akhere Odian, 20 who was an automobile mechanic at Uromi town had visited his parents in Benin City where he allegedly committed the crime.
It added that his father who was in the apartment that fateful night had alerted the police after the ugly incident.
Police further alleged that the suspect narrowly escaped arrest when operatives trailed him to his now abandoned hideout at Ewu town.
“The woman’s family wants justice, police will not leave any stone unturned to ensure justice is served in this case”.
The suspect Akhere Odian, 20, light complexion, about 5 feet tall, speaks pidgin and Esan languages fluently. The release reads in part.
The police statement however advised anyone with useful information that could lead to his arrest to report to the nearest police station across Nigeria, for a handsome reword.
