The whereabouts of a young innocent Medical doctor working at the Central Hospital
Benin, Dr Abel Abu has now become a mystery, he was reportedly attacked by some hoodlums who brought a gang member who sustained serious bullet wounds.

According to a reliable source at the Central Hospital, Benin, Dr Abel was on duty on the 16th of March, 2017, when the hoodlums rushed in a member of their gang with bullet wounds, while the doctor on duty refused giving treatment, as according to the Nigerian police, all patients with gunshot injuries must present a police report, before treatment can be given to such patients. And any doctor caught treating a gunshot injury patient without a police report is guilty of an offence and the doctor is Culpable in such a case.

To this end, Dr. Abel wanted to act on the side of the law and demanded for a police report to enable him treat the victim.

However, the gang members got frustrated by Dr Abel’s action and at a point when they were convinced their badly injured gang member was going to die, they came back to the consulting room and attacked Dr. Abel with a machete, it was at that point that the Dr. shouted for help while running away from his attackers, who also fled for the fear of being handed over to the police.

Our source further said, or Abel was subsequently taken to the theatre for surgery and later referred to a University of lbadan teaching Hospital for further treatment.

A source close to the Doctor corroborated the story and said the gang members have continued to trail the doctor and sending him anonymous text messages which, he described as ‘threat to his life’
The doctor’s whereabout is unknown as he has not been seen again at the hospital, a situation that seem to have dislocated the doctor’s family and job.

Our source further complained that no arrest has been made as the police is not doing enough to fish out the Culprits.

Meanwhile, some Non – Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) have continuously condemmed the incessant act of molesting and assaulting medical personnel, while carrying out their lawful professional assignments according to the rules and laws guiding the profession.

They however, appealed to the federal government to urgently review the law surrounding the treatment of gunshot injuries in Nigeria. This law when reviewed will put an end to reoccurrence of such cases, the statement added.
