BENIN CITY – A young girl, identified as Omoruyi Sonia has fled to an unknown destination after suspected members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram stormed their home and abducted her father, Mohammed Omoruyi (now deceased).
According to a source, the teenager’s father until his death was a suspected member of the dreaded sect and a political thug of APC, who was killed while in the group’s captivity.
It was gathered that, Sonia was close her father who always take her to some of their political meetings, and is aware of her father’s membership of Boko Haram.
It was learnt, the police in Benin City who were acting on a tip off had once stormed the family home, arrested everyone on suspicion of being Boko Haram members, but were released on bail due to lack of evidence.
However, before his abduction in late February 2017, the late Mohammed Omoruyi, a Muslim had tried severally to convert Sonia, his wife, Patience Omoruyi (Sonia’s Mother), and his son, Aisosa Omoruyi, who were christians, but they refused, the source revealed.
“Sonia’s father was introduced to Boko Haram by his uncle (name withheld), and he (Mohammed) also wanted to do same with his children by teaching them jihad at home, but they all refused to renounce Christianity.
“From there, he started behaving strange at home. He bring in strange persons home, beats up his wife and sometimes threaten to kill them”, the source revealed.
However, it was learnt that Sonia who had been one of the major canvasser for her deceased father’s political party in Benin city was suspected by the sect to know about them hence their plans to eliminate her.
“Boko Haram later came to kidnap her brother, Aisosa Omoruyi, and mother from their house and were brutally murdered. For Sonia, we heard she ran to Warri, and we don’t know if she is alive”, the source who pleaded anonymity further revealed.
Meanwhile, a visit to the family home in Benin authenticated the source’s revelation.
