BENIN CITY- It was weeping and wailing on April 27, 2017 in Benin City, following the gruesome murder of a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) Mr. Andre Osayi by unknown gunmen.


A resident in the area where the incident occurred who spoke with newsmen on the condition of anonymity, said the alleged gunmen stormed the deceased residence at No. 10, Isaac Drive, AirportRoad, Benin City, Edo State Capital at about 10:am and opened fire on the 38 year-old party Chief.
According to the source, she said she heard a gun shot in the building close to her house around 10:am on the fateful day but was not sure who the victim was.


The situation according to her threw residents in the area into confusion, as she revealed further that the APC stalwart who has been an active member of the party since the formation of the party has concluded his marriage plan which was expected to hold in about a month time.  


Our reporter gathered that the murder of Osayi could not be unconnected with the build up to the 2019 General election in the country since the deceased, according to political observers was a motivating factor for the APC in the city.


A search in the deceased apartment revealed  a threat note, indicating that the killing was politically motivated.


The remains Osayi has since been evacuated and deposited in a mogue in the state.


The situation has , however, heightened anxiety in the Benin City metropolis as residents who no  longer feel safe in the area have since fled to unknown destination for safety.
