AKURE – Family of Latei John of Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State has alleged a serious threats to their lives, just as they have escaped kidnapping and assassination attempts, arising from their justifiable stand in supporting the government against oil bunkering, pipeline vandalisation and unrest by militants led by one Ossy Obori, who was killed in gun duel by security operatives on the 1st of May, 2017.

It would be recalled that trouble however started when the security operatives partnered with the said family and other indigenes of the community to give information that could led to the arrest of the militants who engaged the security operatives in gun battle, killing one of the security operatives instantly. Shocked by the development, the elders and leaders of Ese-Odo community in a grand design to protect the interest of their militants, launched reprisal attack against the family thereby conniving with the militants to continually terrorise the family to the extent that his mother-in-law was kidnapped and later released and several foiled attempts to kidnap his children and wife, Eghoba Catherine, hence they solicited the support of the security agents especially the police who could not unraved the circumstances.

A source who confirmed the incident said that the humble family who could not resist several threats of being killed had to escape especially in view of the facts that insecurity had attained the highest level without being addressed in the country,

Citing instances of various military groups ranging from Boko Haram insurgents, Badoo Boys, Niger Delta Militants, Fulani Herdsmen, IPOB, MASSOB and other which had engaged in civil unrest in the country without recourse to the law.

The source further said that the family which has enmeshed in serious trouble started having trouble in the country as everywhere they relocated to, members of the Ijaw Nation were always against them, describing them as betrayers to the Ijaw Nation, hence the Ijaw Nation across the country launched a manhunt for the family of Catherine Latei.

The family where however, dismayed about the porosity of the security situation inthe country as they security agents could not help out, let alone protect them from the hands of the militants.

Their situation was being compounded because the government is playing politics with the waw against militants. And Nigerian politics rumples with corruption.

This however, called for the need to reshape the security structures of the country for effective policing.
