BENIN CITY – Stakeholders across the country and Edo State in particular have called on the government and security agencies to intensify surveillance and crime prevention in other to adequately protect innocent citizens from falling victims of kidnapping, cult-related attacks and other violent crimes.
This call was made in Benin City recently when an Estate Management and Businessman, Mr. Nwosa Ikechukwu Anthony was robbed at a hotel in Iyaro axis of Benin City.
Speaking to journalists alongside with his family in an undisclosed hotel, Nwosa Ikechukwu Anthony, the victim of the robbery in Benin City said all his belongings including huge sums of money, laptops, phones and other prized belongings were taken away by the armed robbers and he is left with nothing.
He said he was earlier attacked at Warri for the part he played in the successful rescue mission of a white man who was about to be kidnapped. He said further that for this singular reason, some of the suspected militants have considered him their enemy and have vowed to hunt him down anytime soon; and according to him, the fear of his life was one of the reasons he had to run into hiding in Benin City for safe haven.
“On April 3, 2017, the armed kidnappers visited my family home with the intention to eliminate me but met me absent. In the process, they assaulted my wife and subsequently caught up with me, beat me to stupor and damaged my left leg before I was miraculously rescued by security agents”, he said.
“I had just relocated to Benin City for security reasons, hoping that the ancient city of Benin will give me the needed safe haven I desired, now I have again been robbed even in my hiding place”, he lamented.
The victim emphasised that while he was in Warri, an oil rich city in the southern part of Nigeria, himself and some others, successfully played a part to rescue a white man who was about to be kidnapped by some suspected militants on 25th of March, 2017.
It would be recalled that the rate of violent attacks and killings across the country without any trace of the culprits has attained a very fearful dimension. It is therefore the call of all Nigerians to the federal government and security agencies to continue to intensify their intelligence gathering of information to always help to nip violent attacks in the bud in the country.
