BENIN CITY: Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki is to meet with the leaders as well as members of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Edo State Chapter with a view to amicably resolves all issues bothering on pension payments in the state.

Mr Osagiator Ojo, the Head of Administration, Oredo Local Government Council disclosed this while briefing journalists of the outcome of the Joint Account and Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting presided over by Governor  Obaseki at Government House in Benin City Edo State.

Ojo quoted the governor as saying that the meeting with both local and state government pensioners in the state was necessary to correct the misinformation about pension payments by the present administration.

‘’Government has observed with dismay the gross misinformation that has characterized the payment of pensions in the state. The governor therefore would wish to engage the union leadership or the pensioners both at the Local and State levels to ensure that this gross misinformation is dispelled and all issues arising to the controversies bothering on pension payments are amicably resolved”.

The Head of Administration said that the 18 local government councils in the state jointly contributed N212, 879, 888 in August towards the payment of pension in the state while they contributed  N244. 087,081 in the month of September for the same purpose.

He said that total allocation accrued to the 18 LGAs in the month of September and shared in the month of October was N2.55billion with N1. 46 billion spent on mandatory expenditure.

Ojo said that there was also significant increase in internally generated revenue by the local governments councils as the IGR increased from N85, 027, 746 in September to N115, 538,668 in October.

He added that the governor directed that a seven man committee be set up to ensure that government is abreast with crimes that are committed in different parts of the state with a view to coming out with strategies to tackle the crimes.
