BENIN CITY- The Commissioner of Police in Edo State Mr Johnson Kokumo has reassured of adequate security at the forthcoming local government election disclosing that the military will secured all entry and exit points across the state during the exercise.

The CP also stated that there would be huge security presence during the polls as other security agencies in the state would involved in protection of lives and property.

Mr Kokumo stated this during inter-agency security meeting at his office in Benin city, yesterday.

Though the police boss did not disclose the number of security personnel schedule for the polls, he noted that election materials and EDSIEC officials would be escorted to and from different polling units.

He further assured that arrangements have also be made to ensure that all modalities laid down by the Edo State Independent Election Commission (EDSIEC) are followed before, during and after the election.

Among other heads of security agencies that attended the meeting were the Edo State director, Department of State Services, DSS, Mr Haliru Ibrahim, representative of the commander, 4 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Lt. Col. I Yusuf, Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Edo State Command, Mr Makinde Ayinla and Mr Eniolorunda Kayode of the Nigeria Immigration, Edo Command.

It will be recalled that the Commissioner of Police Mr Johnson Kokumo had a fortnight ago stated that “In Edo State we will be having a local government election in due course, so all the heads of security agencies have converged in my office to synergize a robust plan towards ensuring a hitch free elections.

“We are very much prepared, we have made adequate security arrangements in some areas in the interland.

“We are taking protective measures to take care of any incoming challenges, so we are good to go”.

He noted that EDSIEC is charged with the responsibility to conduct the local polls, as it is the duty of security agencies to protect lives and property before, during and after the exercise.

The Edo State local government election is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2018.
