Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu yesterday joined other Nigerians to mark the 2018 Father’s Day.

A special mass was held at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin where the Deputy Governor was a Mass Server. In an interview shortly after the service, he said as a devoted christian of the catholic denomination, he was happy serving on the alter of God, adding that the last time he did was in 1988 at the catholic church in Kaduna. “This is 2018, what a pleasant coincidence, 20 years after. I believe it’s the Lord’s doing”, says the Deputy Governor.

According to him, ” I’m happy doing it after a very long time because I know that a lot of blessings come with it. I feel highly fulfilled and strongly believe that my entire household and I have received the blessings that come with this special opportunity to serve the Lord in this capacity.”

In his homely, the parish priest, Very Rev Fr Edwin Omorogbe asked all fathers present to come before the alter for special prayers, adding that as heads of families they deserve special attention on a day like this..

The priest also announced and singled out some men for honour. He said they have served the church with dedication for 25 years and above. The were all decorated and presented with specially desined plagues.

Chairman Etsako Central Local Government, Comrade Osi John Akhigbe was announced as the Grand Patron of the Catholic Men Organization, CMO of the church. He was also decorated and presented with plaque. The chairman was accompnied by his wife, Lady Cleopatra.

A special reception chaired by the Deputy Governor was later held at the Youth Chapel Hall to celebrate all the honourees and their guests to climax the occasion.

Personalities who witnessed the event included immediate past Governor of Edo State, Dr Igberamhe Odubu, out going chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, Hon Rasaq Bello, Hon Damian Lawani and other top government officials of the catholic faith.
