AKWA- The leadership of Umunze Community in Orumba South Local Government area of Anambra State has declared a 33 year old man,  Nkannebe Ezekiel Odira wanted for allegedly desecrating the community land.
Nkannebe was said to had been caught with his male partner (name withheld) while making love on December 24, 2018.
The male lovers said to had returned home from Lagos for the yuletide, were deeply engrossed in an act viewed as ‘gay’ when an elderly female in the community stumbled on them.
The bewildered woman according to sources who spoke with our Correspondent drew the attention of other persons around to the alleged abominable act considered as sacrilege by the people.
Nkannebe and his alleged gay partner were later apprehended by the village youths and subsequently brought before the Council of Elders of the village who in turn according to report handled the suspects to the  police for onward investigation and prosecution.
However, there was said to be twist of event as the prime suspect, Nkannebe was said to have escaped from the grip of the police on their way to the station.
According to a dependable source, the family of the gay suspects have consequently been ordered by the Council of Elders to come forward within 14 days with the necessary items for cleansing of the land which they claimed to have been desecrated.
“Failure to comply would attract very unpleasant consequences which includes placing a curse on the entire family, excommunication from the community among others”, the source disclosed.
Contacted on phone, one of the members of  the village council of elders , Ichie Ogbonna Chukwu while  confirming the incidence said the elders of the community have declared a manhunt for the fleeing Nkannebe.
He added that the police have been told to ensure the fleeing Nkannebe is brought to book to serve as deterrent to other young men who may want to indulge in the act considered strange, and threat to the survival of morales among the people.
Ichie Chukwu lamented that the youths are fast embracing the white man’s culture and abandoning their own.
“Hence what has happened is an eye opener for the community leadership to further synergize with Government to quickly curb one of the newest vices that is making in – road into our culture” he added.

However, efforts to obtain comment from the state police authority in charge of the area was not successful as at the time of filing this report, as they declined to comment on the matter.
