BENIN CITY – Some members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 2 Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state were attacked during a meeting by supporters of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC)
The APC supporters threatened to kill leaders of the PDP, including a prominent woman leader of the party, Mrs Idoghor Esther Ahuruole.
A Chieftain of PDP in the area told journalists that some members including Mrs Ahuruole had since absconded to an unknown destination after the December 5, 2018 attack.
“We were holding our ward meeting when APC supporters attack us with sticks, cutlass, and guns.
“They asked us to stop the meeting and any subsequent one in the area, they even threatened to kill our woman leader Mrs Idoghor Esther Ahuruole “, the PDP chieftain who pleaded anonymity said.
However, the spokes person for APC in the state, Austin Egabor denied any involvement of his party supporters in the attack.
“Our supporters are law abiding, and had always adhere to the principles of the founding fathers which is against undemocratic act”, the Edo APC Spokesman said.
However, the Edo state Police Command who confirmed the attack said it had since commenced investigation into the incident.
“After our investigation, we will prosecute those involved in the alleged attack”, The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor told our correspondent.
